Status (SNT) is a blockchain-based messaging platform built on top of the Ethereum (ETH) network. While the Status coin has been trading since late June 2017, the full-blown messaging platform is still in its alpha phase – which means we can see what it looks like, but it’s not a live app yet. This soon-to-release messaging application is going to be really useful, especially if you like to invest in different Ethereum tokens. It has the utility (and then some) of WhatsApp, on top of being decentralized.
We’re happy to announce Status Alpha 0.9.13 is here! If you haven’t yet, you can request early access here https://t.co/tKe05aQYYr. Learn more about the updates and progress made on our blog https://t.co/xMq5UaGdKy #decentralization

WhatsApp might get replaced after this app rolls out. There are a few special features that come with this up-and-coming platform that give it major advantages over the current status quo.
First, the Status (SNT) messenger platform is decentralized
Sure, WhatsApp encrypts all of its device-to-device messages. They also don’t keep any of the message contents, all that data is actually stored on your phone. But, unlike WhatsApp, Status (SNT) will bring messaging onto the blockchain.
It will be a decentralized solution to WhatsApp, Skype and Facebook Messenger – only there will be no central control and everything is encrypted by default. You can send voice messages, photos, videos, and that’s on top of all the blockchain-related features that this messenger app is going to bring us.
The Status (SNT) answer to WhatsApp is built for dApps and ERC20 trading
Imagine talking to a friend or colleague on your mobile messaging app and being able to instantly send them ETH instantly – or any ERC20 token, for that matter.
That’s a pretty sweet deal, because a lot of really popular altcoins have launched on the Ethereum network and there is a huge number of users worldwide. Think about it – Basic Attention Token (BAT), VeChain (VEN), TRON (TRX) and EOS (EOS) are all ERC20 tokens. That means that the Status coin app will be able to interact with all these coins.
Moreover, the Status (SNT) app is a browser where you can engage with any dApp that works on top of the Ethereum (ETH) network.
The Status coin isn’t performing too badly today, either
A lot of the top-valued coins on the market are in the red today. Bitcoin (BTC), Ripple (XRP), Cardano (ADA), IOTA (MIOTA), and all but four of the top 50 coins are lower than they were yesterday. Of the few successful coins, Litecoin (LTC) and Status (SNT) are leading the way.
In fact, SNT is the top gainer at the moment, according to CoinMarketCap.com. At the time of writing, this currency is up 26.5% and trading at $0.233. It’s a really accessible price for small-time traders.
And, clearly, investors are getting excited about the potential of this app. Now all we need is a release date.
I wonder if WhatsApp is doing anything to prepare for this launch – prepping a crypto exchange feature, perhaps?
